Hi, I’m Susan. I offer a warm, attuned, and compassionate approach to therapy that is carefully tailored to each individual. I work with adults seeking depth-oriented, relational therapy. When you reach out, you are contacting me directly, not a therapy platform or referral service. You may feel anxious, emotionally overwhelmed, or stuck in patterns that no longer serve you, especially in relationships. Many carry the effects of attachment wounds, complex trauma, codependency, or major life transitions. You want more than coping tools. You want to understand yourself more deeply and feel steadier and more connected.

I’m honored to offer a safe, non-judgemental, and supportive space for growth/healing & self-exploration. On our life’s path we all have highs and lows. We experience various emotions, some more difficult than others. It can be hard to know what to do with our feelings; how to have them, how to show & share them or simply how to acknowledge them. Emotions can be heavy yet fragile & deserve to be treated with the utmost respect. Using tools & techniques, I help people to observe, describe, experience & participate in the full spectrum of emotions along their life’s path in a non-judgemental way.

Congratulations on taking that first step to obtain support! Searching for a therapist can be a difficult and overwhelming process. Taking this step and setting up an initial therapy appointment can be terrifying, so let me tell you what you can expect if we decide to work together. Maybe you're grieving a loss, struggling with a life transition, or feeling in a rut. Together, we can build up your skills to better understand and manage distressing feelings and the challenges that are currently weighing you down.

People say- "You have a problem, get it fixed- go see someone!" I say- "You have 'feelings'- go share them with someone!" 'Problems/issues' has a negative connotation; there are only feelings to start with- it can be fear, love, guilt, desire, anger, inhibition, disappointment, uncertainty. These are a part of human experience and totally normal, you are bound to have them...unless they become extreme or unbearable (that is when they become problems). I will help you in dealing with yourself and not let these feelings become the so-called 'problems'. I am a coach and learning expert that can help you learn 'you'. Let's learn!

Life presents us with many challenges and it becomes easy to lose sight of how resilient, strong and determined we truly are. My goal in treatment is to help individuals to recognize, embrace, and utilize these attributes to navigate the unique challenges they face and to reduce emotional distress. To achieve this, focus is placed on acknowledging affective needs and reconstructing ineffective thinking while also helping you learn to nurture and appreciate yourself. Therapy will allow us to embark on this mission together, guided by your individualized life goals.

You’re good at so many things, but you struggle in relationships, with confidence in who you are, or managing grief. Therapy will help you tap into your natural ability for deep connection, inner strength, and healing. Perhaps in Relationships- you struggle with communication, boundaries, or you keep getting stuck in the same patterns? In Identity- you know your worth, but have trouble with your self-esteem? In Grief- you get overwhelmed, and don’t know where to start to feel better? You're ready to master relationships, heal, and be unapologetically yourself.

Quality of life suffers when you feel stressed, judged or used by people who are important to you. You look away from that emotional pain and cope - at home, at work, and in the world. In the process, you lose yourself and your dreams. If that's you, counseling can help. Most likely, there are patterns you are repeating. And, even if the people in your life are stressful, there's a reason you have those people in your life, and there are ways you relate to them that you can change. You can feel better. I can help.

I have immediate daytime opening. My favorite phrase is "No Mud, No Lotus." Just as the lotus blooms from muddy water and becomes a beautiful flower, I believe people do that as well and that growth often arises from life’s most painful and uncertain moments. Whether you're navigating anxiety, grief, a breakup, divorce, or a major life transition, my goal is to offer a grounded space where you feel seen, supported, and empowered. I also have my therapy dog named Lyra who can come to sessions when individuals request her.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
