Finding a therapist can be an overwhelming and confusing process. You're doing great because you have made it here! There are all types of acronyms and therapies that may not mean anything to you. In the end, finding the right fit is what matters most. I am a licensed independent clinical social worker (LICSW), which means that I received my master's degree in social work, became independently licensed, and I have been working in the field since 2008.

My name is a Denisa, and I am a licensed independent social worker in the state of Massachusetts. As a therapist it is important for to me to build a trusting, secure therapeutic relationship with my clients, so they are comfortable sharing their narrative and the present issues they want to work on in our sessions. In my career I have worked with adults experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, addiction, and life transitions such as getting used to a new country, changing jobs, or entering a new stage in life (college, parenthood, retirement).

At some point in our lives, we all experience difficulties. I have experience with successfully treating anxiety, depression, worry, irritability and relationship issues. This does not have to define a person. Instead, we can focus on our strengths to change what we need to live happy, productive lives. Everyone's journey is unique and I will follow your lead, and we will work at your pace. Therapy should be tailored to your needs and goals. I realize beginning the process of therapy can feel overwhelming and that finding the right therapist can be even more difficult. Thank you for considering me in this process.

Mental health is how we think, feel and act as we cope with life. It helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others and make choices. Like physical health, mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood.
Everyone feels worried, anxious, sad or stressed sometimes. But with a mental illness, these feelings do not go away and are severe enough to interfere with your daily life. It can make it hard meeting and keeping friends, hold a job or enjoy life. "Get plugged In". You cannot wish your problems away. Therapy can help.

If I were to imagine an ideal client, it would be someone who wants to change no matter what their needs are. It would also be someone who is open to new and innovative treatment modalities. It is also beneficial to have someone who is not hindered in what they discuss. Everything is important.

Your life is a constant juggle, a never-ending to-do list. College, work, family, & unexpected life shifts—your plate is full to the brim. Sometimes, it feels like you're drowning in responsibilities. The weight of it all can be suffocating, leaving you utterly exhausted. You've become a master at putting others' needs first, but who's taking care of you? You keep telling yourself, "It'll be okay," while pushing down the mounting pressure, but deep inside, you're struggling. You wear a brave face but you long for a moment to pause, to be heard, to acknowledge that it's okay to not be okay.

I enjoy working with others struggling with anxiety, ADHD, depression, confidence, spirituality, relationship issues, and self-worth. I often find myself working with those who are learning how to honor their intuition and develop their true and higher selves. I also enjoy working with clients who are open to alternative therapies. I am a heart-centered and strengths-based therapist who meets clients where they are in life and strives to provide a nurturing environment to allow my clients to grow into the best versions of themselves.

My ideal client would be someone who has not had much success with counseling in the past but is very motivated to participate. I would love to work with a client who has struggled with depression, anxiety, some substance use, and has a history of trauma. I would work to help this client recognize how these issues are connected and perpetuate a cycle. I would also want to help them interrupt that cycle and set boundaries with themselves and in interpersonal relationships. I would work with this client to find healthy hobbies and coping skills while also challenging them.

My ideal client still chooses to show up regardless of their ambivalence towards their treatment goals. Even if this person is not entirely set on treatment, recovery, whatever it might be, your next steps can decide whether or not that individual returns. If I'm thinking more specifically about my own experience, I think a lot about the individuals I supported who were actively using substances. They could identify the harmful impacts and want recovery but couldn't get through their initial ambivalence. These types of moments and individuals are so important to me.
