Currently open and accepting new patients. There is no ideal client, but individuals seeking to heal from trauma, grief, sadness, and anxiety. We all walk our own paths in life and sometimes need support along the way. Those who are willing to get better and work towards their goals of health and happiness warm my heart and are the driving force for why I practice in psychiatry.

Seeking services for mental health support is an important decision. My purpose in doing this work of psychiatry is to provide clarity and understanding of symptoms that interrupt function and compromise quality of life. It is with this purpose that we, together, devise strategies for raising stress tolerance, setting attainable goals and reaching them. Since 1990 I have been working in health care, from holistic beginnings in massage therapy and nutrition, to addiction medicine, family medicine and migrant health, and now psychiatry and behavioral medicine. I am a Psychiatric Physician Associate.

FAQ - Ketamine-Assisted Psychiatrists
What is ketamine-assisted psychiatry?
Ketamine is a medication originally developed as an anesthetic that has shown significant promise in treating mental health conditions such as depression. Ketamine-assisted psychiatry is an approach in which a psychiatrist administers ketamine as part of a broader mental health treatment plan. Unlike other antidepressants, which can take weeks to produce results, ketamine can have faster effects, resulting in a more rapid improvement in mood and symptoms. However, ketamine-assisted psychiatry is not recommended as a standalone treatment and is typically used in combination with therapy and, in some cases, other medications to support long-term mental health outcomes.

What happens during a ketamine-assisted psychiatry session?
Because ketamine is a controlled substance that requires medical supervision, only psychiatrists or other licensed prescribing providers can administer it; therapists and counselors cannot. Therefore, ketamine-assisted psychiatry typically takes place in a clinical setting under the direct supervision of a psychiatrist. Before treatment begins, the psychiatrist will conduct a thorough evaluation of your medical and psychiatric history, which can be used to determine whether ketamine is an appropriate treatment. During a ketamine-assisted psychiatry session, ketamine is typically administered intravenously (IV), and the process usually lasts between 45 minutes to an hour. Throughout the session, a provider monitors your vital signs (such as heart rate and blood pressure) to ensure that the medication doesn’t lead to any adverse safety events. After the session, you will be monitored for a period of time before being cleared to leave. Treatment is typically administered over a series of sessions, usually 6-8 sessions, over a period of 2-3 weeks, although psychiatrists may adjust the duration of treatment depending on your progress.

When should I consider ketamine-assisted psychiatry?
Ketamine-assisted psychiatry may be an option to consider when you have a diagnosis of treatment-resistant depression or another mental health condition that has not responded to other forms of treatment, such as antidepressants or traditional therapy. It may also be appropriate if you are experiencing severe symptoms and need more rapid relief while waiting for other treatments to take effect. Prior to seeking treatment, it is important to have an evaluation by a medical doctor, as ketamine may not be medically appropriate for everyone.
