Depression is a severely debilitating illness and while some patients improve with medications and psychotherapy, some patients do not. This can be due to medication adverse effects, difficulty adhering to the regimen, or a simple lack of efficacy from these agents. Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is an FDA-approved and indicated therapy for these cases. TMS can also treat OCD, Anxiety, and aid in smoking cessation.

People usually consult us because of our unique assessment and treatment philosophy. We provide care for the individual as well as the family. We provide care for children, adolescents and also adults. People appreciate our collaborative model of care. They also appreciate our striving for spiritual growth in ourselves and other people.

My goal is to help my you thrive and become the most self-realized individual you can be. Often that entails at least some level of healing, whether physical, emotional, relational, or even spiritual, before we leverage awareness of the obstacles that stand in the way of living our fullest. My approach to psychiatry is to seamlessly blend medications and therapy so that you can truly live. While medications can be very helpful at times, I don't believe in a magic pill. It is important that you share with me your values and goals so we can also collaborate to find non-pharmacological approaches to helping you thrive.

I care about positive outcomes in my patients, and depend upon patients' and families' investment in the process of seeking improved mental health and long-term well-being, and I encourage collaboration with psychotherapists as part of this process. My role is not that of a "pill-pusher," but rather an expert diagnostician, mental healthcare guide, psychoeducator, and pharmacologic treatment. I believe the patient's duty is to be an active participant in the process of diagnosis, treatment, and long-term mental health. To ensure the best care possible, I do NOT participate in Medicare, Medicaid or any insurance panels.*

Physician Assistants are medical professionals educated and trained in general medicine, much like physicians, but in a shorter period of time and then certified and licensed to work in collaboration with physicians. I planned on practicing general medicine but discovered a passion for psychiatry and saw a need for prescribing providers in that field. Health and wellness includes all aspects of our lives and should be integrated. So understanding medical issues and the science of how physical and mental health interact and affect the patient’s life and function leads to my holistic or integrated approach to care.

When should someone seek treatment for a traumatic brain injury?
People should seek a diagnosis and treatment after a head injury, especially if they were unconscious, and an early diagnosis can lead to a better recovery. Signs of a concussion include headaches, nausea or vomiting, exhaustion, dizziness, vision problems, sensitivity to light and sound, problems with attention and memory, brain fog, unusual irritability or sadness, and unusual sleep patterns.
What’s the most common treatment for a traumatic brain injury?
Treatment for a traumatic brain injury will be different depending on the severity of the problem. For mild injuries, treatment may involve rest and over-the-counter pain or headache medication. For moderate or severe injuries, treatment may involve stabilization, medication, and rehabilitative therapies such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, cognitive therapy, and counseling.
How long does it take to recover from traumatic brain injury?
The recovery time for a traumatic brain injury depends on the individual and the severity and nature of the injury; the length of time spent unconscious is often an indicator of severity. Recovery time for mild injuries may be a week or two while recovery time for more severe injuries may be six months to two years. Research suggests that the vast majority of recovery occurs in the first two years after an injury; recovery after that time frame is less certain.
What if a traumatic brain injury is left untreated?
If a traumatic brain injury is left untreated, it can lead to long-term physical and mental health problems. Physical problems may include dizziness, headaches, vision, healing, or speech loss, and an elevated risk of dementia. Psychological problems may include impairments of memory, judgment, and decision-making, depression, aggression, poor impulse control, and personality changes.
