Feeling overwhelmed, burned out, or struggling to stay focused despite doing everything right? Many adults quietly struggle with ADHD, anxiety, and chronic stress. My healthcare career began on the front lines as an EMT and progressed through LVN and ICU nursing before becoming a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. Starting at the foundation of healthcare shaped my perspective and allows me to approach care with humility, empathy, and respect for each person’s journey.

I am a Board-Certified Psychiatrist with a passion for helping individuals and families enhance their communication and emotional understanding. Born in India and raised throughout America, my multicultural upbringing has deeply influenced my empathetic approach to psychiatry. As a child, I was often described as a "thinker," a trait that led me to express my feelings through work. It was during my young adulthood that I realized the importance of not only thinking, but also speaking openly about emotions, a journey that continues to shape my professional and personal life.

You’ve done your inner work and created a life that works in many ways—yet something deeper is calling. My clients often feel stuck, disconnected, or like they’re meant for more. They’re ready to release what no longer serves and move toward clarity, wholeness, and inner alignment. They’re not looking for years of talk therapy—they want real change, rooted in both safety and depth. With over a decade as a psychiatric nurse and extensive training in transformational methods, I gently support your inner curiosity as it opens the door to lasting healing and true growth.

I have a particular interest in psychotherapy, as well as issues associated with spirituality and religion.
Finding the 'why' behind each patient’s story is at the heart of Dr. Saherwala’s approach. To achieve this, she expertly blends psychodynamic therapy with a strategic use of medication management. Board-certified and dedicated, Dr. Saherwala looks beyond surface-level symptoms to find the root of challenges. With a patient-first approach, she thoroughly explores each case from social, medical, and psychological angles. You will feel truly seen and supported throughout your journey.

The medication might be doing something. It's not doing enough. Internally, something remains dysregulated. Mood could be better. Sleep is inconsistent. Cognitive sharpness fluctuates. The pattern hasn't resolved despite therapy, despite medication, despite effort. You've started asking a different question. Whether the evaluation was ever actually comprehensive. Whether something biological was missed before anyone reached for a prescription pad. That question is usually the right one. My assessment is structural, identifying what has been missed, what is driving the pattern, and what it actually requires to change.

Spirituality Psychiatrists
What should I expect from therapy that incorporates a focus on spirituality?
Spirituality can mean different things to different individuals, depending on their experiences, beliefs, and life histories. Some individuals focus on strengthening their belief system, while others experience spirituality in secular ways, such as through meditation, yoga, or by spending time in nature. Clients can expect a therapist to help guide and grow their spirituality through any of these techniques, encouraging the individual to cope with the challenges they face and develop strategies to build resilience and purpose to improve their outlook in life.

What are the most common treatments that include spirituality?
There are several treatments that incorporate spirituality. Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) helps a person examine and reframe their negative thoughts and behaviors. Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) focuses on emotional acceptance and psychological flexibility. Existential therapy is most often used to address anxiety, depression, grief, loneliness, apathy, despair, questions of identity, and feelings of purposelessness and existential dread. Transpersonal therapy focuses on a client’s spirituality and meaning in life and may incorporate techniques including meditation, visualization, hypnotherapy, dream analysis, and or breathwork.

Can therapy incorporating spirituality help atheistic or agnostic individuals?
Yes. For non-believers, spirituality can offer benefits including a greater sense of connection to others and to the natural world. An interest in spirituality may also spur individuals to pursue mindfulness practices, or to contemplate their purpose in life and how to achieve it.

How effective is spirituality as a therapeutic remedy?
Research suggests spirituality is generally beneficial for individuals. It is correlated with better health habits, such as less substance use, and an improved capacity to cope with stress and other mental health challenges. Increased spirituality can lead individuals to become more empathic and less materialistic, as well.
