People seek treatment for many different reasons including stress related to their career or relationships, difficulty coping with trauma and anxiety, or a desire to better understand themselves. As a psychiatrist, I offer a variety of different treatments including individual therapy, couples therapy, and medications. My approach is empathic and collaborative. I work to gain a nuanced understanding of who you are and your reasons for seeking treatment. My goal is to help you better understand yourself, find new ways to cope with stress and anxiety, and achieve a greater sense of life satisfaction.
I have particular expertise in psychodynamic therapy. In therapy, you will learn about feelings and thoughts, which were previously out of your awareness, that impact how you feel and how you interact with others. Therapy can address longstanding and repetitive issues in achieving satisfaction in relationships, career, self-esteem, and other areas of life.
I completed residency and fellowship training in psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania and have advanced training in psychoanalysis. You can find more information about my practice at https://www.ruutiainenmd.com/
