I am a psychiatrist who specializes in depression, anxiety, and other mood disorders. I appreciate the idea of patients having not only access to medication management and psychotherapy but also the latest interventional psychiatric treatments such as Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) and Esketamine nasal spray for treatment-resistant depression. I see TMS and Esketamine as great options for patients to consider when medication management and therapy alone do not provide adequate relief for depression. I am excited to see how these treatments evolve and develop over time as accessibility to these modalities improves.

I am a board-certified Psychiatrist with a focused interest in people struggling with major depression disorder, bipolar disorders, aggressive disorders, ADHD and addictions. I also have a special interest in the field of nutritional psychiatry. Different diets have different affects on the mind and body, and taking that into account is something I find crucial to a wholistic form of treatment along with medications and other alternatives. I feel it is critical to ensure that everyone’s brain receives adequate and fundamental nutrition when looking at their overall mental health.

I focus on helping patients with mood disorders, anxiety, and personality disorders. I find Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) allows another access point to healing for those suffering from mental illness and can make a difference in helping a patient find relief.

I treat patients who suffer from depression and anxiety. I see Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) as a safe treatment with limited side effects that can create lasting improvement for patients, especially for patients who have not found a medication regiment that provides the relief they seek.

My interests in TMS and esketamine treatments stem from my belief that there is no one-size-fits-all to mental health treatment. I am interested in finding what works best for each individual, rather than relying exclusively on more traditional treatment modalities. My ideal patient is interested in pursuing personal wellness – whatever that may mean to them as an individual.

I focus on patients with depression and those people who may be treatment-resistant, having not felt relief from their depressive symptoms with medication and therapy alone. I have an interest in helping adolescent and young adult populations. I believe that providing mental health resources to people in the foundation stages of their life can set them up for success in the future. This also gives more time to figure out what works best for each patient to grow with them. I first earned a degree in Psychology to pursue my passion for the mind and its abilities. But after graduation, I realized I wanted to be in a career that helps people understand the mind and helps them become the best versions of themselves through the healing process.

Accepting New Patients - Dr. Ara completed her fellowship training in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry (CLP) at UCLA. CLP is a subspecialty of psychiatry that focuses on treating mental health issues in patients with complex medical conditions. Before her fellowship training, she completed her psychiatry residency at the University of New Mexico and earned her M.D. degree from Tehran University.
