I'm a medical doctor who is board certified in child psychiatry and an expert in autism and other neurodivergences. Often, mental health symptoms (ex: inattention, hyperactivity, aggression) of a neurodivergent child are attributed to their neurodivergence (ex: autism) and no further work up or intervention is sought out. This causes symptoms to worsen, leading to poor outcomes at school & home. My model is to look at the whole child & all contributing factors (pain, loss, diet etc.) in order to get a true assessment. Then work together with families to establish a path forward that encompasses their values & their child's needs.
