My name is Sussana Howard. I am a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner board-certified to treat adolescents through the geriatric population. I am based in Texas. I work with clients statewide through telehealth. My approach to care is using the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders to provide objective, reliable criteria for identifying and differentiating mental disorders. I use assessment, treatment, and prevention of mental health problems in children and adolescents.
In the geriatric population, the patient's psychiatric illness is approached from a broad view to include the patient's family, co-existing medical illnesses, social concerns, environmental issues, and medications.
My approach to goal setting with my clients is about working together to define what they want to accomplish in our time together. It starts with building trust between us and getting comfortable to be able to see a psychiatrist, work together to set goals, and track progress.
