Currently accepting new patients: children ages 3 and up, adolescents, and young adults. Welcome to Roots and Wings Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Our philosophy is that every child should be imparted with two gifts. One is roots and the other is wings. I am a licensed physician since 2005 and have been practicing primarily child and adolescent psychiatry since 2008. Our goal is to see every child flourish in the context of his or her family. In addition to traditional psychiatric medication management, we also offer alternative treatments, as well as individual and family therapy.

Accepting new patients. I offer care that is personalized, accessible, and collaborative. I strive to understand each patient’s treatment goals to develop a truly personalized ongoing plan of care. I specialize in medication management, mood and thought disorders, sleep disorders, anxiety disorders, dual diagnosis, crisis intervention, brief therapies, traumatic stress, LGBTQIA+, letters of readiness for gender-affirming care. Self pay prices are $300 for initial psychiatric assessment and $150 for medication management follow up.

I have always been fascinated by how the brain works. Becoming a psychiatrist offered me an opportunity to learn more about the complexities of the human mind, while allowing me to make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals, families and communities. I love to work with patients who take ownership of their health and actively collaborate with their treatment team to work towards achieving and maintaining a state of well-being that supports a fulfilling and healthy life. My working style with patients involves a collaborative approach, valuing the patient's input and involving them in the decision-making process.

Dr. Isela Werchan is board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in general psychiatry. Dr. Werchan completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Texas at El Paso. She received a medical degree at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. She completed a general psychiatry residency training at the University of Texas at Austin Dell Medical School. She was Chief Resident and awarded the VA Outstanding Resident Award and the Van Dao Award. Her training experience includes the treatment of mood and anxiety disorders, traumatic and obsessive compulsive disorders, as well as psychotic disorders.

My approach is based on integrative psychiatry, which uses medications, therapy and complementary medicine to treat the whole person, not just the symptoms. I address the combined impact of sleep, lifestyle, relationships, nutrition and chronic medical conditions on well-being, and use cutting edge tools like genetic testing to guide personalized treatment with medication and supplements. I consider the patient’s cultural background in my assessments and I can provide treatment in Spanish, Portuguese, French and Italian. My goal is to help my patients create lasting changes and build vitality, resilience and purpose in life.

I aim for a for a collaborative approach with my patients. I wants to work together with each patient to provide holistic care that works. I have a personal interest in overall wellness outside of the treatment plan, which incorporates wellness via nutrition, exercise, sleep, meditative practices, and medication or other medical interventions when appropriate. I'm also a believer in other interventional treatments, such as transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) therapy. These alternatives not only are proven to be effective, but they also provide more options for each patient.
