The patients who benefit the most from working with me are usually struggling with feelings of depression and/or anxiety, often associated with problems such as insomnia or recurrent physical symptoms due to stress. They want to understand what is happening to them and which treatment options might help them. Getting balanced information about the risks and benefits of treatment is usually a priority. My patients are often trying to decide whether to use medication to control their symptoms, or psychotherapy, or both. Recently, I have specialized in the evaluation and treatment of individuals who have developed disturbing and persistent visual symptoms following the use of psychedelic or hallucinogenic drugs - conditions known as Hallucinogen Persisting Perception Disorder (HPPD) or Visual Snow Syndrome (VSS). HPPD and VSS are often accompanied by other mental symptoms.
Many persons with symptoms of HPPD and/or VSS have trouble finding clinicians who have heard of these conditions. It is frightening to have symptoms that no one understands.
