My decision to pursue a career as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner is rooted in a deep commitment to compassionate, patient-centered care and a strong desire to address the growing mental health needs within our communities. Throughout my nursing career, I have witnessed the profound impact that mental health challenges can have on individuals and families. These experiences have strengthened my dedication to providing holistic, evidence-based care that supports both the psychological and physical well-being of patients.

I offer a space where you can say what cannot be said anywhere else—an unconditional welcome to speak what feels most real, fully and without censorship. Dreams. Fantasies. Memories. Ruptures and traumas. Crises, and all the patterns that return again and again, asking to be heard. This work goes far beyond simply prescribing medication. I aim to be a long-term, trusted partner in your journey toward a more meaningful life. Within the safety of a therapeutic relationship, talk therapy can help you untangle the past, illuminate your inner life, deepen your self-understanding, and open new possibilities for living and relating.

We all tend to seek help when what we are doing is no longer working, or we feel stuck , dissatisfied or our life is out of control, or someone we care about says that we should get help. I view these pivotal moments as potential moments of alchemy, if we are willing to be mindful with what is, staying with our experience and working through it. Remaining mindFUL allows the experience to teach us what we are supposed to learn, if we are open to it. I am here to support you as you go through your journey, face your challenges, identify patterns with you that keep you feel stuck so that you can be more free to be your best self.

Mental health is more than just a diagnosis, it’s about resilience, human connection, and healing. I became a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner after witnessing firsthand the gaps in care and understanding that many individuals face. I wanted to be a voice for those who often go unheard, ensuring that every patient receives compassionate, individualized care. At the heart of my practice is a strong belief in the power of healing and the importance of offering hope where it may seem lost. I strive to create a safe space where patients feel seen, heard, and empowered in their journey toward well-being.

Many people I work with feel overwhelmed, anxious, stuck, or unsure where to turn next. They may have tried medications before without feeling fully heard, or they may be new to treatment and want thoughtful guidance. Often, they are looking for clarity, stability, and a provider who will take time to understand their symptoms, medical history, and goals rather than rushing to a one size fits all solution.

Addiction Psychiatrists
What type of addictions can psychiatrists treat?
Addiction is a general term used to describe a group of mental health conditions characterized by the engagement in compulsive behavior, the loss of control, and harmful impacts on one's life—such as disruptions to school, work, or familial commitments. Substance use disorders involving the use of alcohol and/or drugs are among the most common forms of addiction, but addictions can also be behavioral in nature, such as gambling or shopping. Psychiatrists who specialize in addiction help clients manage the influence of their addiction on their daily life, often through a combination of psychotherapy and, when indicated, medication.

How do psychiatrists approach addiction treatment?
When seeing a new client, a psychiatrist will often begin with an assessment to ensure that outpatient care is appropriate for the client and assess whether a higher level of care, such as an intensive outpatient program (IOP) or inpatient detox program, may be necessary. Once the current level of treatment has been determined, psychiatrists will work with clients to identify recovery goals and outline a treatment approach that is most appropriate. Psychiatrists will often support recovery through psychotherapy practices like motivational interviewing, as well as through medication, which for some conditions, like opioid use disorder, can help manage symptoms of withdrawal that make recovery from addiction more challenging. In other cases, medication may be used to treat co-occurring conditions, such as depression or anxiety.

How to find the right addiction psychiatrist?
The Psychology Today directory is a useful tool to find psychiatrists who specialize in addiction. Using the search filters, clients can search for professionals with expertise in addiction or related conditions, such as substance use, alcohol use, drug abuse, or dual diagnosis. If desired, clients can also narrow their search to providers who share their identity, such as identifying as a specific gender or practicing a given religion. When speaking with potential psychiatrists, it can be helpful to ask about their specific expertise in treating addiction and inquire about their approach to medication and behavioral interventions. Since not all psychiatrists treat every form of addiction, it is important to ensure that the psychiatrist has experience in the specific addiction that is relevant. It is also important to determine whether their office is accessible (either close-by or via telehealth) and if they accept your insurance.
