You are more than that: You are a complex and whole human being and you have a right to be seen. On the outside, patients here often feel that it looks like they are succeeding. It feels like a big lie. Despite being smart, driven, and caring, life is not easy. They might have achieved big accomplishments. There is often a feeling that "I shouldn't feel like this". It gets exhausting trying to balance all the parts of your life. It's also exhausting to ignore your emotional needs until they become too overwhelming - and you're faced with no choice but to tend to them. You deserve to feel better. If you want to work towards improving how you feel using an evidence-informed holistic approach, I'd love to help you get there.

I offer a radical healing relationship with somatic & psychiatric tools - from Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) to thoughtful prescribing to psychedelic integration - to help you nurture regulation and relief from the roots up.
At the core of my work is a radical healing relationship that attunes to whatever is calling for your attention. Whatever feelings or parts of you you've learned were unlovable, unacceptable, or bad, I welcome here. Together, we can sensitively tune in and learn to see and relate to these parts differently. I help people remember how to be with themselves, the sensations in their body, their messy humanness, and their awe-inspiring magic. Here, your autonomy is central, and your care is organically holistic.

I am a board certified psychiatrist specializing in both adult psychiatry and psychosomatic medicine. My areas of particular interest and expertise include medication simplification, issues related to chronic illness and death anxiety, as well as broader issues related to anxiety, addiction, depression, trauma, anger, and relationships. My approach in session is largely integrative, heavily informed by psychoanalytic, cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavioral, and relational life therapy concepts. I am a member of the Academy of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry and have been recognized as one of New Jersey's Best in Medicine.

Somatic Psychiatrists

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
