Creative people can end distress-without losing creativity! I start with a comprehensive evaluation and "differential diagnosis." I customize treatment to your needs, combining natural techniques, psychopharmacology, brief CBT, arts-based or horticulture therapy, collaboration with other therapists, as needed. We review current concerns, medical, cultural, family, interpersonal, educational, vocational and substance histories, before identifying helpful-or harmful--past treatments, avoiding whatever harmed. I recognize "medical mimics" of mental symptoms, and medication side effects—and recommend natural solutions whenever possible.
Psychiatrists offer more than Meds. We identify "medical mimics" of psychiatric symptoms & then recommend the safest, quickest, most effective symptom relief. I teach psychotherapy to psychiatry residents, so I can design comprehensive, customized treatment plans, adding exercise, diet, yoga, art, music, gardening, psychodrama to standard psychotherapies.

I accept most insurance for psychiatric services and prescribe affordable--yet effective-medications, natural treatments, lifestyle modifications, plus short "high-yield" CBT or “behavioral activation”. We specialize in depression & anxiety, eating dIsorders, alcohol issues or opioid problems, using natural techniques when possible, short CBT/DBT sessions, plus psychopharmacology or Suboxone as needed. We prescribe safe medications that make it easier to avoid binge eating or alcohol overuse or opioid misuse. We know that the 12 step all-or-nothing approach is not for everyone, so we support harm reduction or abstinence or the Sinclair approach. We avoid anti-depressants w side effects—such as weight gain or sexual dysfunction— and teach natural methods to minimize habit forming anti-anxiety meds.
