I have been involved in medical research, medical activism and have held several leadership roles. Since graduation I have worked in settings with severe mental illness and patients who have treatment-resistant illness. These experiences have helped me to excel at Psychopharmacology as I have extensive knowledge using a variety of medications. I have training in working with diverse populations in a variety of clinical settings. I am warm, compassionate, understanding, and culturally sensitive. This helps guide me into forming an accurate diagnosis and medication plan for each individual patient.

I am board certified in psychiatry and neurology, and trained in functional medicine. I specialize in adult/geriatric, reproductive, and adolescent psychiatry. I focus on the whole individual -- not just a constellation of symptoms -- and the treatment I provide is comprehensive, and integrative. My focus is on the relationship with my patients, maintaining trust, and providing excellent care. I approach my patients with the same dedication I would want my own loved ones and family to receive. I do not accept insurance but provide a superbill that you can submit for out of network benefits.

My practice is directed primarily to adult and geriatric patients. People’s behavior is rooted in biology and shaped by experience. Thus, the more we know about the biological, psychological, social and cultural issues that affect our patients, the better we practice. Hence, I have strong interest in psychopharmacology, therapy, and neuromodulation.

I'm a Columbia University-trained psychiatrist focusing on women's mental wellness. In addition to my expertise in general and addiction psychiatry, I'm one of a few doctors with specialized training in women's mental health and reproductive psychiatry. I provide highly personalized and empathic treatment to women throughout the reproductive life cycle. I believe in treating both body and mind through mindful breathing and meditation in addition to talk therapy and the most up-to-date medication treatments. My expertise is in psychoanalytic and psychodynamic psychotherapy. This kind of psychological work is fostered by the development of a strong alliance between the patient and the therapist, which is why I meet with my patients at least once a week and often more frequently, including for full analysis.

Dr. Sina Safahieh hails from Austin, Texas. He obtained his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch and completed an adult psychiatry residency, and child & adolescent fellowship at UC Irvine. Dr. Safahieh graduated with highest honors with a BBA in Business Management from the University of Texas at Austin. I am experienced in treating both adults and children with the use of Psychoanalytic methods. I use the object relations approaches of Klein, Winnicott and Bion. In child therapy, I engage children on a deep level through play, dreams, art and conversation. With adults, I use free association, night and day dreams. My object is to expose patients to their primitive, deep anxieties allowing them to work through their troubled minds, facilitating internal growth and development, and positive social interactions.
