Dr. DeSarbo is a Board Certified psychiatrist specializing in the treatment of EATING DISORDERS and general psychiatry including mood disorders, anxiety issues, ADHD, OCD, relationship issues. In addition to psychopharmacology, he also practices CBT and existential therapy. He is the Medical Director of ED-180 Eating Disorder Treatment Programs which provides custom intensive treatment programs for patients in the Long Island/NYC area. He is also an author, a lecturer and the founder and host of the annual Long Island Conference on Eating Disorders. He oversees a full staff of therapists and clinicians at his offices.
In addition to his private practice and overseeing ED-180, Dr. DeSarbo acts as a private consultant for national and international cases. His expertise is the understanding of the neuroscience of eating disorders and mental health which he frequently presents on at conferences worldwide.
As a physician, all initial appointments with Dr. DeSarbo include a full evaluation with treatment planning that includes medical/psychiatric recommendations and appropriate referrals to the proper physicians, therapists and nutritionists who work as a part of his collaborative team. Body Image Group
Body image groups are limited to 6-8 clients and focuses on coping skills and specific strategies to tolerate and improve the distress associated with negative body image. Even with effective eating disorder treatment, severe body image distress can persist for years after eating disorder recovery and poses significant risk for relapse. These groups are designed to specifically address these issues.
