My approach is to help people with problems with love and work. There are two kinds of love: (1) human sexuality and (2) love writ large as mutual affection and caring. Work provides a livable income, food and shelter, and a sense of success. It can be unsatisfactory, compounded by clashes between employers or among the workers themselves. When love and work are threatened by loss, the reaction may be one of anxiety, all the way to panic. When love and work get lost, the reaction will be grief or depression, low self-esteem, helplessness and hopelessness, even an urge to die.
I view my work with the patient as a collaboration built on an emotional contact between us. Our shared goal is to gain knowledge of the facts of each situation and insight and understanding of how the problem arose and how to solve it: for e how to overcome maladaptive dependence on others and change it into a healthy and supportive inter-dependence.
My task is to teach the patient how to cope and hope, achieve self-mastery, and become productive in love and work. I deal with men’s and women’s problems, and LGBTQ+. The charge is $350 per session. People with out-of-network insurance plans get partial reimbursement.
