I am a board-certified psychiatrist who has 20 years of experience teaching, researching and practicing in academic clinical psychiatry and the field of problematic sexual behaviors. I maintain an open and inclusive clinical psychiatric practice that focuses on most major psychiatric problems. While many of my adult patients are members of underrepresented sexual/gender minorities (LGBTQI+) or are seen for sexual problems, many are not.

My training and clinical experience of 3 decades include general medicine, neuropsychiatry; comprehensive adult psychiatry, sexual medicine, various psychotherapies (such as here-and-now focused therapy); rTMS; esketamine (Spravato) and ketamine treatments; psychiatric genetic testing; and advanced psychopharmacology with integrated supportive psychotherapy / counseling during patient sessions. I employ a multidimensional and integrated approach toward an accurate and comprehensive diagnosis and effective treatment strategies. I am in the clinical faculty at the GWU, Depart. of Psychiatry. Dr Serghi’s approach to the medical act is built around the central concept of biological, psychological and social determinants to human illness. The core principle of his practice is based on the application of the scientific method to the most current medical evidence for both the diagnosis and the treatment of brain disorders. In addition to expertise in neuropsychiatric diagnoses, Dr Serghi offers both brief psychotherapeutic interventions as well as long term psychodynamic psychotherapy, in combination with medication treatment only if indicated, within the absolute privacy and comfort of the patient-doctor therapeutic space.

My ideal client is someone who values their mental health and understands the importance of addressing any mental health concerns to maximize their overall well-being and success in their professional and personal lives. They may be struggling with stress, anxiety, depression or other mental health issues that are impacting their ability to function at their best.
