Over the more than three decades that I have been in practice, the field of psychiatry has undergone dramatic changes. We now have available many medications that have significantly and substantially improved the quality of life and long term functioning of numerous people. A number of psychiatrists only see their patients for brief medication management visits on a reasonably infrequent basis. This is not a model of treatment that I employ or am comfortable with.
I was trained in a strongly psychotherapeutically oriented program. I am also well versed and skilled in the complex practice of psychopharmacology. It is my practice to individualize treatment plans based on each person's unique needs.
I am comfortable collaborating with psychotherapists and other treatment providers when appropriate. I do, however, also see patients for individual psychotherapy with or without the concomitant use of medications. My "pager" is my cell phone which permits patients to have easy access to me in the event of any problem.
