I am the only physician fully trained and Board Certified in both Psychiatry and Neurosurgery. I think that it is important for a physician to understand that each human person is unique and the result of a melding of Brain, Mind, and Spirit. I see patients that have primary Psychiatric disease and those with neurological disease manifesting psychiatric symptoms. Patients that have a neurological disease with psychiatric symptoms need to be treated with full understanding of what brain areas will and will NOT respond to various medications. My practice employs both medication management and Neurologically informed psychotherapy.
As a Neuropsychiatrist I am able to assess each patient comprehensively. Some have said (including a recent Nobel Laureate) that some in "psychiatry forget the brain" and some in "neurology forget the mind". I start with the human person as an individual first and formost. We will then, together, discern how we can bring your brain and mind back into synch.
