As a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP), I believe the principle of developing a therapeutic relationship is essential in order to help empower clients to take control of their lives and to achieve internal happiness. My philosophy of providing comprehensive mental health care begins with attentively listening and taking a thorough intake and history, while respecting the autonomy of the individual person and supporting them through whatever difficult time they may be going through in their lives.
My attentive listening strategies include providing undivided mindfulness while focusing on the issue at hand through a client centered approach, by providing a genuinely warm and supportive environment to explore their problem. The basis of individualizing empathetic care, is central in creating a reciprocated atmosphere for trust and rapport to occur.
As a board certified mental health nurse practitioner, I have been specially trained in assessing, diagnosing, and treating both acute and chronic mental illnesses throughout the life span. Although my focus is to help guide clients through achieving empowerment over their lives, I also have the ability and knowledge to prescribe psychotropic medications.
