Hello! I graduated with a degree in nursing from Santa Monica College in 2009. Since that time, I’ve worked in several hospital settings including intensive care. I finished my first masters degree as and Adult Gerontology Clinical Nurse Specialist in 2017 from California State University at Dominguez Hills and started managing extremely sick people in a long-term acute care hospital One universal I’ve seen throughout my many different careers in and out of healthcare is that the presence (or absence) of good mental health care spells the difference between success and failure in any environment.

Although carefully chosen medications can quickly achieve much needed relief of anxiety, depression, insomnia and trauma symptoms, a thorough evaluation can also identify many opportunities for improvement without medications. The most effective treatment plan may include work-life balance, nutrition and sleep strategies, address, avoid or adapting to triggers, in addition to multiple psychotherapies. When needed, medications with the lowest side effects, easiest to use, most predictably effective & not addictive are recommended. Ultimately, it is up to each person to decide which strategies they will use to achieve wellness.

I provide early intervention and integrative approaches, such as communication with all providers, schools, and support teams. I design individualized treatment plans for a variety of mental health disorders. I primarily work with children, adolescents, and young adults. I encourage relationships within family systems, fostering opportunity for patients to be heard and to feel known within the context of their story.

I am a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with over 8 years of experience in mental health. I previously specialized in counseling teenagers and young adults and have specialized training in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). I offer both medication management and counseling services to all age groups. Most of my appointments are offered virtually, providing convenience and comfort to clients throughout the state of Colorado.

I am a board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner and the founder of authentic mental health, PLLC.  I am a compassionate, down-to-earth provider, who is dedicated to helping individuals manage their mental and emotional well-being while creating healthy, fulfilling lives. I specialize in evaluating, diagnosing, and treating a wide range of mental health conditions within a safe and supportive environment where clients feel comfortable sharing their concerns and working towards their mental health goals. I believe in fostering a strong therapeutic alliance and involving clients in their own treatment plans.

Kayla completed her Doctorate in Nursing Practice at Arizona State University. She has experience working with clients with depression, anxiety, and ADHD. Kayla works with individuals who are looking to gain insight into themselves and improve their quality of life. She seeks to understand each individual holistically, including their background and their strengths, in order to provide an individualized approach. Kayla believes that establishing a strong alliance with her clients is essential to getting the most out of treatment and creating lasting change.
