Amanda Selman, PMHNP-BC is a board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner. She received her Masters in Nursing Science from Wilkes University and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly). Her career has included working in both hospital and community mental health settings. She has experience in and enjoys working with diverse ages, genders, socioeconomic backgrounds, and mental health issues. She also has a special interest in women’s mental health including pregnancy and postpartum.

Thank you for your interest in my practice. I am a child, adolescent and adult psychiatrist. I specialize in the treatment of psychiatric illnesses that impact children and adolescents including but not limited to mood and anxiety disorders, ADHD, and eating disorders. I also see children struggling with behavioral issues at home or at school and adolescents exploring their gender identity. I see adults with similar disorders and have a unique interest in women’s mental health including women facing infertility, psychiatric issues in pregnancy and postpartum, and challenges of new motherhood.

Trained at Johns Hopkins University and triple board-certified in psychiatry, family, and women's health, I have experience caring for a diverse client population. Welcome to Peninsula Mental Health and the office of Catherine Reed, MD! My approach to caring for patients is collaborative and non-judgmental. My treatment emphasis is individually centered on assisting people in their entirety along their journey to wellness, rather than viewing them through the lens of a limited set of pathologies. My goal is healing in a welcoming, safe environment.

I offer specialized care to treat mental health conditions during pregnancy and postpartum. I use a combination of therapy and medication management, specializing in pregnancy and breastfeeding. I work with patients to explain the role of medication and take a collaborative approach to treatment. I'm passionate about helping expecting and new parents transition into the next phase of their lives, and I enjoy working with parents and infants together. I believe that patients should not be defined by their symptoms or diagnosis and strive to understand each person's unique strengths, experiences, and history.

I am a general adult psychiatrist, treating a wide variety of psychiatric illnesses with particular interests in depression, anxiety, maternal mental health, and ADHD. I earned my medical degree from the University of Rochester and completed my psychiatry residency at the University of Southern California/LAC+USC.

I work with clients to help them meet their goals and achieve optimal mental wellness. I provide psychiatric services including medication evaluation and management, and psychodynamic and cognitive-behavioral therapy. My career interests include the mind-body connection between exercise and wellness, young adult life transitions, women's prenatal and post-partum mental health concerns, and the spiritual aspects of psychological health. I completed my residency at San Mateo County Psychiatry Training Program, where I served as Chief Resident.
