With over 40 years experience treating people with severe problems in my office and over 10,000 in the hospital, medication is used in combination with brief therapy sessions. Northern Virginia and Washingtonian magazines, as well as Checkbook have listed me as one of the top psychiatrists in the area. I am a co-author of DSM III, the original diagnostic manual still in use, & 2 book chapters on substance abuse. I was on FDA’s Drug Abuse Advisory Committee for three years. I have presented original papers to the American Psychiatric Association's meetings and also published in the American Journal of Psychiatry & others.
Enjoyment and motivation are stolen by depression. Anxiety causes isolation and avoidance of places. Phobias constrict life. Panic attacks or OCD impair function. Mood swings damage careers, relationships and job performance. My hospital work has given experience stabilizing bipolar disorder to prevent relapse.
I treat people with anxiety, phobias, bipolar disorder and treatment-resistant depression, and many who are on medication with inadequate response seeking a re-evaluation.
