I am a Board Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner who is qualified to practice in psychiatry; diagnose, treat, and prescribe medication for children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. Some of my practice specialties include, but not limited to, PTSD, ADHD, Personality Disorder, Depression, Anxiety, Bipolar, Schizophrenia, Eating Disorders, and Addictions. I began my career at South Florida State Hospital, as a Mental Health Technician. After working as a Mental Health Technician and seeing how Mental health is affecting the community, my true meaning and purpose of helping came as a vision .

Many patients have not seen results from previous providers, or worse, received harmful care. They find my approach to biological and functional psychiatry appealing. I explain their symptoms, treatment options, and risks/benefits/alternatives "better than any provider has before" and I "think outside the box". We seek the primary Cause of problems via a holistic approach; rather than just prescribe powerful psychotropic medications for Symptoms via a trial-and-error method too commonly seen in this country for our level of knowledge and experience. "He treats me like a person and not a disease" is what I enjoy hearing the most.

I believe in partnering with my patients with both integrative and traditional medicine to develop a plan that supports your individualized needs and specific treatment goals. Our philosophy is patient centered care that treats the whole person with focus on the importance of the mind body connection.

Dr. Thorkelson is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry and Medicine at The University of Pittsburgh. He completed his adult residency training at Temple University and his child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at The University of Pittsburgh where he continued on in three roles: as Associate Medical Director at the Center for Integrative Medicine, as staff psychiatrist at the John Merck Center for Autism and Developmental Disorders, and through the Visceral Inflammation and Pain (VIP) Center in the Department of Gastroenterology. Dr. Thorkelson specializes in the treatment of anxiety, autism, ADHD, and depression.

I'm Kelli, and I hold dual board certifications as a Family Nurse Practitioner and a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. Over the years, I've honed my skills in inpatient and outpatient clinical settings. My true passion lies in mental health, and I'm committed to delivering high-quality and empathetic mental health and primary care services to individuals of all ages. I currently provide care to patients in Florida and Mississippi, addressing conditions such as Depression, Anxiety, PTSD, ADHD, and various other behavioral health concerns, in addition to general primary care.
