As a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, my ideal client is someone who is ready for change, even if they feel unsure or overwhelmed about where to begin. They may be struggling with anxiety, depression, mood instability, trauma, ADHD, or life transitions that are affecting their work, relationships, or overall functioning. Often, they feel exhausted from “just getting by” and want clarity, stability, and a renewed sense of control over their mental health.

It’s never too late to begin again. If you could’ve just “snapped out of it,” you probably would’ve. Maybe you look fine on the outside, but inside it feels like you're barely getting by. Maybe you're overwhelmed with depression, anxiety, OCD, or just feel badly and don't know why. Together, we can figure out what’s happening, create a plan that actually fits your life, and help you start feeling more like yourself again.

Hello, my name is Mary Grace C. Tirey. My primary goal was simply to help people in any way I could. I dedicated myself to the physical health and well-being of my patients. Through my experiences, I saw how much a person's mental health can affect their entire life, and how connected it is to their physical health. This realization truly changed my path. I wanted to offer more than just physical care. I want to provide a space where you can be open about your struggles, where your emotional and mental well-being are just as important as anything else. I am here to walk alongside with you on this journey.

Medication can be very helpful in reducing symptoms while also receiving cognitive behavioral therapy, DBT, EMDR, and trauma-informed therapy.
I completed both my undergraduate and master’s degrees at The Ohio State University, beginning my career at OSU East and Talbot Hall. From there, I transitioned to outpatient mental health and addiction services at Lighthouse Behavioral Health Solutions and Basecamp Recovery Center, specializing in dual diagnosis treatment. This included the diagnosis and management of complex mental health disorders such as ADHD, anxiety, depression, mood disorders, psychotic disorders, sleep dysfunction, and PTSD.

I enjoy working with individuals to identify what keeps them from fulfilling things they wish to do and things they have to do. Individual/client needs might include meeting them where they are, setting realistic & achievable goals, approaching them with gentleness, recognition of their strengths and who they are as a person. Ideally, the individual is ready to break down whatever barriers are holding them back, however sometimes a nudge or a challenge to perspective is needed, and that is ok too.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Psychiatrists
Who is DBT for?
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?
The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?
Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?
Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
