Our mental health is foundational. It shapes every decision we make, every relationship we form, and how we move through our lives. Mental wellness enables intention and action to align, making it possible to be present through life’s moments fully as ourselves. Many find this journey to be less about becoming someone different and more about understanding and managing what gets in the way—so the self that's always been there can be expressed with greater ease, clarity, and impact.

Optimal mental health is the goal, not just the absence of disease. The body, mind, and environment operate as a whole. You can’t treat a symptom without addressing the root cause. Extra time allows me to be thorough, listen to your story without interrupting, and discuss treatment plans in detail. This allows me to provide higher quality care and enables you to feel heard and understood in a way you may never have felt before.

FAQ - About Toddler Psychiatry
Do psychiatrists see toddlers?
Yes, some psychiatrists specialize in or are trained to work with very young children, including toddlers. These specialists are typically referred to as child and adolescent psychiatrists, and they complete additional training beyond general adult psychiatry, specifically focused on younger patients. Some may focus even more narrowly on early childhood. If you are looking for psychiatric care for a toddler, a child psychiatrist with experience in early childhood is the most appropriate choice, since they are specifically trained to consider how the developing brain and body respond differently to mental health conditions and treatments when compared to older children and adults. It is worth noting, however, that medication is used far more cautiously and less frequently in toddlers than in older children and adults, so seeking a therapist, rather than a psychiatrist, is typically the first line of treatment at this age.
Should a toddler see a therapist or a psychiatrist?
The decision to see a therapist or psychiatrist will depend on what specific services your toddler needs. Therapists who specialize in early childhood (such as psychologists or licensed counselors trained in play therapy or parent-child therapy) provide treatment focused on behavior, emotional regulation, and the parent-child relationship. In contrast, psychiatrists are medical doctors (MDs or DOs) who can diagnose mental health and developmental conditions through evaluations and prescribe medication when needed. In many cases, toddlers benefit from both therapy and psychiatry working together. If you are unsure where to start, your toddler's pediatrician can be a good starting point, as they can assess the situation and refer you to the appropriate specialist.
What types of toddler mental health conditions can psychiatrists help with?
Child psychiatrists with early childhood experience are trained to diagnose and evaluate a range of conditions in toddlers, including autism spectrum disorder, developmental delays, early signs of anxiety, and behavioral concerns such as extreme tantrums or aggression. What makes a psychiatrist specifically useful for these conditions is their medical training; because they are physicians, they can evaluate whether a toddler's symptoms have a physical component, such as a sleep disorder contributing to behavioral difficulties, or a neurological factor affecting development. When medication is part of the treatment plan, which is relatively rare at this age, a psychiatrist monitors the effect of the medication, adjusts dosage, and watches for side effects. This is especially important in toddlers, whose bodies and brains are in a particularly rapid stage of development, meaning any medical intervention requires close follow-up.
