As a psychiatric nurse practitioner it is my vocation and privilege to work with patients in order to mitigate symptoms associated with depression, anxiety, OCD, psychosis, mood, personality, eating, substance use disorders, etc.
As so eloquently verbalized by an anonymous speaker during a NAMI conference, "My medications didn't teach me how to swim. They just raised the floor of the pool so my toes could touch the bottom and I wouldn't sink again." It is my belief that with the appropriate psychotherapeutic interventions no one has to go through life feeling as if they are drowning. An individual's life should not be defined by their diagnosis. Instead they should be able to find experienced, compassionate, care in order to live the life they were given to it's fullest extent.

Creative people can end distress-without losing creativity! I start with a comprehensive evaluation and "differential diagnosis." I customize treatment to your needs, combining natural techniques, psychopharmacology, brief CBT, arts-based or horticulture therapy, collaboration with other therapists, as needed. We review current concerns, medical, cultural, family, interpersonal, educational, vocational and substance histories, before identifying helpful-or harmful--past treatments, avoiding whatever harmed. Want a psychopharmacologist who recognizes "medical mimics" of mental symptoms, including medication side effects? See my Psychiatric Times series, "Why Psychiatrists are Physicians First." Prefer natural solutions? See my article on "What Wordsworth Knew: Daffodils as Antidepressants."

I mainly do medication management, though some mindfullness-based psychotherapy as well. There's no shortage of approved treatments in psychiatry, though only certain ones work best to serve each person's unique needs. I'll try and find that 'right' treatment for you. If I have a 'strength' in this field, I'd say it's this flexibility of approach. I also support the use of therapeutic practices such as acupuncture, yoga or zen. I treat patients with mental health issues including ADHD, Anxiety, Bipolar Disorder and Depression. Let's work together to find the best option for you.
