If you are looking for a psychiatrist who would understand you without judging you, and not see you as a "robot to be fixed with medications", you are at the right place. You can see me from the comfort of your home, office or any place you wanna be. I am very friendly, experienced and knowledgable. I would be happy to help you understand yourself better, find out what's best for you at the time and guide you towards that path.

In addition to medication and cognitive-behavioral therapy, I'm also interested in the complementary use of meditation, mindfulness, exercise, light therapy, and companion animals.
I received my BA from Columbia and MD from NYU and completed my psychiatry residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. After serving in the Air Force and on the faculty at Penn, I moved to Ohio State, where I founded an outpatient depression and bipolar disorder clinic.

I also offer several modalities of psychotherapy including cognitive-behavioral, supportive or psychodynamic.
I am an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Columbia University. I did my psychiatry residency at Weill Cornell Medical Center and medical school at Duke University. In our initial appointment, I spend time getting to know you, what has been causing difficulty and what you have tried previously. Once I have a better understanding of the problems, we create a treatment plan together. I can provide medication management, psychotherapy or a combination of these depending on what's best for you. I believe treatment is a collaborative process and that empathy and open mindedness are essential to the process.

Because I believe mental health isn't all meds or all therapy, Eastern or Western, or even physical or mental, my practice includes four integrated services: medication, psychotherapy (psychodynamic, CBT, DBT-skills), exercise training/planning, and meditation teaching.
I work with any person - child, adolescent, adult - who is seeking treatment. They may be suffering from depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, or post-traumatic stress disorder, among others. Or perhaps they have never been diagnosed with a clinical disorder, but are seeking help to reduce stress during a difficult time, such as a challenging life transition or the death of a loved one. Those seeking a highly individualized and comprehensive approach to mental health treatment might find my practice particularly attractive, given what it offers.

I have trained in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family and Marital therapy, as well as Psychiatric Medication Management.
Pursuing additional psychodynamic psychotherapy training at the NYU Psychoanalytic Institute, I became more conscious of defenses and psychodynamic conflict which can exacerbate symptoms, impair work performance, and human relationships. I believe that effective treatment involves integration of psychotherapy and medication management.

I understand and see medication management as a tool in facilitating and supporting the cognitive-work that goes on in therapy.
My ideal client is curious about themselves and willing to look inward. She or he may be struggling with issues of self sabotage, avoidance, or even denial with regards to what really sources their sadness, their depression, their anxiety and the constant dis-sense with happiness. He or she is looking to make progress towards building a life that is truly their own, even if it's not currently being validated by the external world. Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) Psychiatrists

How does cognitive behavioral therapy work?

Cognitive behavioral therapy works by exploring how your thoughts affect your emotions and experiences. CBT helps you identify distortions in your thinking. For example, you may tend to jump to the worst case scenario catastrophizing or think in extremes (all-or-nothing thinking). A therapist can teach you how to push back against those thoughts to ultimately change your feelings and behavior for the better. They can also provide coping skills to better deal with stressors and challenges.

When do I know to seek treatment with cognitive behavioral therapy?

It’s reasonable to consider cognitive behavioral therapy if you struggle to manage difficult emotions or behaviors to such an extent that you are not getting the most out of life on a day-to-day basis. If you want a shorter term, concrete, skills-based approach, CBT is a great option. (By contrast, other types of therapy may devote more time to exploring your past and its effects.) The decision to seek CBT also depends on the condition you’re treating; CBT is an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and many other disorders.

How can I find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else?

To find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else, you may want to begin by discussing the person’s problem, researching cognitive behavioral therapy, and assessing whether the approach is the right fit. You could then reach out to a few cognitive behavioral therapists in this directory, explain the scenario, have a consultation with those available, and determine who could be a good match.

Why is CBT such a popular form of therapy?

CBT has become a popular form of therapy because it is effective and accessible. Robust research has demonstrated that CBT is an effective treatment for many mental health conditions. And CBT can be learned in relatively few sessions, which means that many people can engage in the process, afford it, and see results quickly. It involves learning concrete skills such as disputing unhelpful thoughts; these skills can also be taught and spread widely.
