Welcome to MindsMattersMD LLC! Mine is a dynamic telepsychiatry practice designed to meet your mental wellness and overall health needs. I am board certified in general psychiatry. This coupled with a prior psychiatry residency training in the Republic of Ireland, and my background experience of working with patients with mental illnesses, and their families in Nigeria, gives me a unique perspective of the various important aspects of providing quality care.

Dr. Hovav has a deep understanding of the biological, psychological and social components of mental illness and treats her patients using evidence-based medicine combined with psychotherapy. For treatment-resistant disorders, she is known to think outside the box with creative psychopharmacology. She graduated medical school, completed an internship in Internal Medicine, then a Postdoctoral fellowship at UCLA, and finally a Psychiatry Residency at Creighton Univ. She was previously a Medical Director of Behavioral Medicine and is currently in private practice. She has several publications in leading peer-reviewed medical journals.

As an integrative and functional medicine Psychiatry Nurse Practitioner, I provide a holistic treatment approach for individuals seeking relief from mental distress. Medicine can be a helpful tool, but some people don't like to be on medication, while others want to be on the minimum amount possible; I will work with you to find that inner peace and freedom you desire. When needed, I prescribe psychiatric medication as part of a comprehensive treatment plan, including exercise, meditation, vitamins, and nutritional supplements.

As a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, my experience includes multiple behavioral health outpatient clinics as well as substance abuse clinics throughout New York City. Through these experiences, I have always felt a calling to assist individuals with mental health issues. My training crosses a life-span while utilizing Evidence-Based Practice. Trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, as well as utilizing various treatment modalities to adequately treat each individual client. I am capable of helping individuals who are experiencing difficulties with the ability to physically function, due to the inability to manage their emotions.
