Samuel Okechukwu, APN, PMHNP is a Board Certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner and founder of My Psych Provider LLC. He has over a decade of experience in Acute care and Psychiatry, both as a medical surgical nurse, psychiatric registered nurse and psychiatric nurse practitioner. He possesses strong clinical skills enhanced by his natural ability to build rapport with patients and their families. He uses an individualized approach to care and listens because every patient has a unique story. His goal is to improve the quality of life by following evidence-based guidelines while providing quality and comprehensive mental care.

I am a board certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, with a certification in perinatal mental health. I can provide psychiatric evaluations, prescribe medications and be a part of your support system. I was trained in New York City, received my Bachelors from NYU and my Masters from Hunter College. My experience has been with very vulnerable populations, those with chronic and persistent mental illness, people experiencing homelessness or substance use disorders, and those who lack access to healthcare.

As such, I treat patients with common psychiatric disorders such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, bipolar disorder, and PTSD, as well as drug, alcohol, and behavioral addictions. I utilize evidence-based psychotherapies including cognitive behavioral therapy, relapse prevention, and motivational enhancement as well as medication when indicated. I completed my General Psychiatry residency and Fellowship in Child- Adolescent Psychiatry from Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, New York, where I was appointed as chief fellow. I have been working as an attending psychiatrist with Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care, in the school-based programs, where I provide full range of psychiatric services to youths (5-21) in out of district therapeutic schools. I also work with Robert Wood Johnson- Barnabas Health, covering psychiatric emergency room and consultation services.

My ideal client presents with anxiety; she has been experiencing a lot of panic attacks. She has been to the ER over three times in the past two months, where they ruled out cardiac problems. They always give her benzodiazepine and follow up with a psychiatrist. She does not want to be on medications, so she tried psychotherapy. She was then referred by her therapist. Her goal is to stay on medication for a short time. She prefers to use natural remedies. She is very fearful of science and the long-term effects of medications.
