Dr. Jennifer Bowen is a seasoned Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. Her academic journey includes a diverse range of studies, beginning with a Neuroscience degree from Tulane University and then advancing to nursing degrees, culminating in a Doctorate in Nursing Practice from the MGH Institute of Health Professions. In her practice, Jennifer provides a holistic approach to mental health care, with a particular focus on treating trauma-related disorders across all age groups. Her six years of experience in community mental health have cultivated her ability to empathize and collaborate with her patients.

I am an ANCC board-certified PMHNP. I received my MSN in Psychiatric Mental Health from Virginia Commonwealth University. I worked as an RN on a trauma step-down unit, helping patients who had endured bodily trauma and patients withdrawing from substances. The clinical experience I received during my training was largely with inpatient mood disorder and forensic psychiatric populations with anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and schizoaffective disorder. When I began to work as a psychiatric nurse practitioner, that experience influenced my decision to focus on mental health.

As a board certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, I have worked with clients across the lifespan, specializing in depression and anxiety disorders, mood dysregulation, trauma, addictions, attachment disruptions, and those struggling with adjustment and difficult transitions through life. My main approach to treatment is developing a collaborative relationship with my clients to enhance and foster an environment where patients feel validated while working to improve their psychosocial functioning. Generally I believe less medication is better; however, I work with people to find a regimen that may help improve their lives. In my free time I like to spend time with my wife and son, hike, play guitar, go on meditation retreats and perform improv comedy.
