After graduating with a Degree in Psychology from Georgetown University, I received a Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology. I began my career as Director of St. Mary's a facility for abused and neglected children/adolescents. I returned to The Medical College of Pennsylvania and completed my internship/residency at Pennsylvania Hospital/Institute of Pennsylvania Hospital. Served as a consultant to the Renfrew Center an eating disorder and women's mental health facility. As Director of Medical Education at Crozer-Chester Hospital I have taught medical students and residents. In practice for 20 years, I am a Board Certified Psychiatrist.

As a board certified psychiatric nurse practitioner, I treat psychiatric conditions using a holistic and bio-psycho-social approach. My goal is to restore feelings of stability and well-being and I work with each patient to develop a specialized plan of care. My training has offered me the ability to provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and medication management. I understand that starting medication can have its concerns and I strive to provide education and counseling during this process.

I'm a board certified psychiatrist. Psychiatric symptoms/disorders are often complex and are usually influenced by genetic factors, environmental/social stimuli and personal experience. I do a comprehensive initial assessment to determine the need for medications and if medications are indicated, I carefully consider the risk-benefit-alternatives of medications. In addition to prescribing psychotropic medications, I try to bring out one's inner strength/potential for drive and motivation for better adaptation to daily stresses.

The decision to go into therapy is not an easy one. As an advanced practice psychiatric nurse with 20+ years of experience, I have found that by providing a safe, supportive, and caring atmosphere, my clients can express their thoughts and feelings, understand themselves better, and feel empowered to make changes in their lives. As a nurse psychotherapist, I integrate an understanding of my clients' medical, family, social, and emotional issues to help them attain their optimal level of mental health. I am also able to prescribe medication to facilitate treatment of mood disorders and anxiety affecting my clients.

Dr. Akhil Sethi is board certified in Adult psychiatry. He started his journey in the mental health field from England, having been trained at prestigious institutions, such as: St. Georges Hospital (South London) and in Queen Elizabeth Hospital (West Norfolk, UK), which is affiliated with University of Cambridge. He furthered his training with his psychiatry residency at Cleveland Clinic, Ohio and has had a keen interest in mood and anxiety disorders. He also gained expertise in management of treatment resistant mood disorders. He has done visiting fellowship in ECT from Duke University.
