Life is HARD. We are not naturally adapted to live the lives we are currently expected to live (think hours in front of the computer, limited time outside, isolation from others). Given this, it isn’t surprising that the CDC estimates that 1 in 5 Americans will experience a mental illness in any given year. However, there is help and hope! Research shows that individuals with mental health conditions do best when they receive a combination of medication and therapy. Let us help you with your psychiatric medication needs. You deserve to ENJOY life!

I believe mental health is deeply connected to many aspects of life — including physical health conditions, chronic pain, stress, life transitions, trauma, and socioeconomic pressures.
I am a dedicated and board-certified Physician Assistant with four years of experience in Internal Medicine and two years of focused practice in psychiatry. My transition into mental health care was guided by a deep desire to create space for patients to feel heard, supported, and understood during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives. I thoughtfully integrate medical insight into psychiatric care so that treatment feels comprehensive and grounded in the full context of each individual’s experience.

My intention is to help my clients lean in and experience life to the fullest; many times this can be difficult when we identify too strongly with our mind. Evidence has demonstrated that optimal treatment includes a combination of medication and therapy. I prefer to collaboratively work with clients to develop an individualized treatment plan.

Most people develop some kind of self-loathing and feel disappointed in themselves. Somehow, we are never good enough, we don’t measure up in intelligence, beauty, goodness and accomplishments. If we had traumatic experiences, we learned to shut down in a more complex way and feel disconnected from life. There is an intelligence that helped you to survive and to get to the present moment. However, habits and coping that helped you in the past may no longer work and inhibit you in finding your true potential and joy. Now is the time for you to seek support to take a new look. Finding a skilled therapist may be what you need.

As a psychiatrist, my expertise encompasses both psychiatric medication management and various psychotherapeutic approaches, including CBT, DBT, trauma-informed therapy, ACT, and psychodynamic therapy.
I am passionate about helping patients who feel stuck and are seeking change. Often, identifying what needs to change can be challenging. My aim is to empower patients to live as their authentic selves by exploring their values, goals, and aspirations. I work to uncover the roots of their struggles and guide them toward progress. While confronting past experiences and their influence on current behaviors can be difficult, I gently walk patients through this process. By understanding past issues, we can identify recurring patterns of thoughts and behaviors that contribute to current "sticky spots."

FAQ - Trauma and PTSD Psychiatrists
How can psychiatrists help with trauma and PTSD?
Trauma and conditions such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) are characterized by distressing symptoms like flashbacks, insomnia, intrusive memories, hopelessness, and irritability in the wake of a major event. Trauma can also result from a chronic series of events, resulting in a condition known as complex trauma. Not all individuals who experience a traumatic event seek psychiatric support or gain a diagnosis for a trauma-related disorder; indeed, many individuals with strong social supports and/or coping skills, which can contribute to resilience, can manage complex feelings after a traumatic event on their own. However, many individuals do benefit from seeing a psychiatrist for medication or other therapeutic support, particularly if they are experiencing acute symptoms or are particularly vulnerable to trauma due to other emotional conditions or challenges.

How do psychiatrists treat trauma and PTSD?
Psychiatrists can help individuals struggling with trauma by prescribing medication that helps to reduce the intensity of symptoms. Medications are often most effective, however, when used in conjunction with evidence-based therapy interventions, such as Exposure Therapy or Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). These forms of treatment help individuals overcome trauma-related symptoms through guided exposure to trauma-related triggers in a controlled therapeutic environment. In some cases, psychiatrists will conduct these sessions with clients, or they may work with a client's therapist or counselor who offers these services. This team-based approach to care for trauma can be particularly useful, as can ongoing maintenance sessions with a psychiatrist even following an initial period of more intensive treatment, since many individuals with trauma or PTSD may experience relapses or the return of symptoms even after initial progress. In such cases, having a psychiatrist who can adjust the treatment plan or medication in accordance with a client's needs can be an important part of maintaining long-term recovery.

How can I find a psychiatrist who specializes in trauma and PTSD?
The Psychology Today online directory can be a helpful resource to search for psychiatrists (MDs) and psychiatric nurse practitioners (PMHNPs) who specialize in trauma, PTSD, and related conditions. In addition to searching for psychiatrists who specialize in these conditions, you may consider searching by psychiatrists who specialize in working with a particular population, such as veterans or children. When searching for a provider, ask about their specific experience treating symptoms of trauma and what their approach to therapy and medication is. It is also important to determine whether their office is accessible (either close-by or via telehealth) and if they accept your insurance.
