, Addiction Psychotherapy and Family and Couples therapy.
My patients seek more personalized psychotherapy and medication. I listen to both the conscious and unconscious parts of your life story and know when not to over-analyze. My practice is the opposite of cookie cutter treatment. You don't have to be "mentally ill" to see me. My patients seek to become a better version of themselves and go beyond their perceived limits. I help people be honest with themselves, identify their real values, so that one can reach their goals. I help people cope and thrive with their changing life circumstances. I provide emotional support, but also get to the point quickly if you seek advice.

So many people struggle with woundedness, self-loathing, addiction, guilt, regret, and more. There are ways to accept the past while also working for a better future. As a skilled psychotherapist, I understand how to see the positive in each person as well as the pessimistic thinking that may prevent insight. Psychotherapy can help a person gain self-confidence, forgive past transgressions, improve relationships, and develop more effective coping skills. Even people dealing with hardships can learn to appreciate the beauty and joy in their lives.

Dr. Shawn Faust DNP, PMHNP-BC offers medication management for the full range of psychiatric ailments, such as Depression, Anxiety, and Bipolar. In psychiatry, there is often more than one evidence-based treatment option available. There are many types of medications that can be used with or without talk therapy. Each treatment plan has different Pros and Cons. So how does one pick the best treatment plan? My treatment philosophy is to discuss evidence-based treatment options with the client and collaboratively decide on a treatment plan that best fits their personal preferences and values.

Sometimes, our best efforts leave us stalled. Personal initiative and the robust energy that we typically apply to serious challenges falls short of relieving true worry, anxiety, depressed mood, fatigue, insomnia, and other symptoms. At the root of our struggle, it may be that what previously had worked fails us now. The medical specialty of Psychiatry emerges as an essential ally when treatment options originate from a thorough clinical evaluation in concert with your primary care physician, psychologist, therapist or alternative medical practitioner for an integrated treatment plan. As a psychiatrist, my goal is your sustained, long-term health.

I work with patients who are struggling with mental health issues. My patients often have a goal of treating anxiety, depression, ADHD, OCD, bipolar disorder, PTSD, and more. Sometimes my patients want to just learn more about themselves, and why they feel the way that they feel. I love working with patients who would like to explore holistic options in addition to medications to optimize their mental health. Holistic treatments can be anything from exercise, to learning habit stacking, to sleep hygiene. So many factors that contribute to our mental wellbeing - treating my patients with attention to these details optimizes outcomes.

Who is DBT for?
DBT is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.
Why do people need DBT?
The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.
What happens in DBT?
Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.
How long does DBT last?
Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
