Have you ever felt the concern that your child is marching to a different drummer. That they may not be making friends, or are laughed at, or learning differently. Most of us feel a bit guilty and may feel that we have done something wrong, or worse that no one else sees what we do. There are answers her. What about the teenagers who are afraid of standing out, succumbing to the pressures of drug use or experiences had too early for their years. How can we move them past these roadblocks into their emerging adulthoods as they will need clarity of mind and heart to gain their independence and take the road into their future?
As an adult, child and adolescent psychiatrist MD, and Psy.D I view each individual with a unique Brain/Mind/Body that defines them and their interaction to the world. Through diagnosis psychotherapy and sometimes medication each developing person, including adults, can find their optimal environment, relationships and move closer to happiness.
None of us live in a vacuum. Our interconnectedness allows us to experience each others' joy and pain. Whether a parent desperately trying to help their child, or a child without words who craves understanding, or an adult frozen in past trauma, consider reaching out. I was a professional flutist. Later I will meet with the child alone and with parents a few times and perhaps do some basic testing for ADHD , anxiety or depression. Ultimately the family and I will come up with a plan for treatment.
