People are often unaware of, and frustrated by, the emotional and relational roadblocks that repeatedly thwart them. I work with you to clarify and understand these issues and their origins, to help you effect positive change. I believe that the self-understanding that catalyzes such change is best reached by cultivating a psychotherapeutic relationship in which compassionate, honest and constructive communication can occur. I strive to create an environment that encourages the development of empathic and reflective self-awareness, recognizes and fosters resilience, and promotes your optimal well-being.
PRACTICE IS TEMPORARILY CLOSED TO NEW PATIENTS... I aim to be as transparent as possible so as to help you to identify if I might be that person for you. This is vital because it is crucial for you to trust your psychiatrist and feel confident that your concerns and needs will be addressed in a sensitive, respectful, and nonjudgmental way. Whether you are a new mom or dad struggling with the challenges of new parenthood, having difficulty adapting to a new job or role, feeling worried and overwhelmed, or feeling down and withdrawn, I may be able to help you recover and improve your quality of life.

I prescribe medications when warranted by the clinical situation. Each patient and his or her improvement is very important to me. Achieving a sense of happiness and self worth is critical to a fulfilling life. I work with people from age 15 and up.
Let's bring an end to mental health stigma by educating the public. Prevention is the best intervention, and the holistic care approach is one of the most noteworthy parts of the nursing model to help a patient heal versus cure. Beautiful Mind Psychiatric Mental Health Services staff and interns believe in engaging individual patients in his/her care at the very first encounter to promote optimal mental wellness. Consequently, decrease emergency visits and inpatient psychiatric admissions. We empower our patients to take back control of their health and guide them to a healthier self.
Our team (Donald Lucero, Ed.D., Steven Brown, LICSW, Kristine Costa, LMHC, and Jean K Boyd, MD) treats a spectrum of psychiatric and psychological problems with therapy and medications as needed for each individual. We are a small private practice and see patients by appointment only.
Throughout my career I have successfully treated people with symptoms of depression, anxiety, mood disorders, and ADHD. I enjoy the collaboration with other treating providers such as psychotherapists and primary care providers in maximizing the benefits of psychopharmacological treatment. I am committed to high standards of care following the latest clinical research. Tele-medicine psychopharmacology only. I do not take insurance, self-pay only.
I provide evaluations, medication management, psychotherapy, and consultations for children (age 5 and up), adolescents, and adults. Weighing the potential risks and benefits of taking a medication is a personal decision. My task is to provide the information and recommendations to help you make a decision with which you are comfortable. I believe medications need to be used thoughtfully, minimally, and as one part of a whole plan that often involves non-pharmacological interventions, such as therapy, mindfulness training, lifestyle changes, and the like. Those interventions are important if one wants to achieve lasting changes, especially if one decides to eventually stop taking a medication.
