I want to work with clients who are active partners rather than recipients. I view providing care as a partnership. My ideal patient is seeking care because they want to feel better and improve their life. An ideal patient makes their needs and goals known as we work together. I admire my patients who have an open mind to suggestions for interventions that may improve how they feel. I believe this flexibility can open up new possibilities for well-being.

PRACTICE IS TEMPORARILY CLOSED TO NEW PATIENTS... I aim to be as transparent as possible so as to help you to identify if I might be that person for you. This is vital because it is crucial for you to trust your psychiatrist and feel confident that your concerns and needs will be addressed in a sensitive, respectful, and nonjudgmental way. Whether you are a new mom or dad struggling with the challenges of new parenthood, having difficulty adapting to a new job or role, feeling worried and overwhelmed, or feeling down and withdrawn, I may be able to help you recover and improve your quality of life.

Ideally my patient is as invested in their care as I am. They could have a variety of diagnoses but the thing they have in common is they are willing to give the process time, are open to new ideas, and know there is no magic pill to fix all their problems. My patients want to get to the best version of themselves and are willing to try therapy as well as medications to help them reach that goal. My patient wants an empathetic, listening provider who can guide their care based on the evidence, but tailored to their individual needs.

My own experience with postpartum depression and being treated by knowledgeable, kind providers prompted me to consider a career change from law to mental health. In past decade, I observed the mental health crisis culminating while access to help stagnate, or worse - decline. Most people are getting their psychiatric prescription from their general practitioner. This may be enough for some, but not all people affected by mental illness. In most cases, careful and stepwise stabilization is needed, sometimes with two of more medications. In addition, people suffering form several side effects may benefit from genetic testing.

Some people are concerned that meds will change them or may have had a bad experience with meds. Some have had great success and want to continue or optimize treatment. With a comprehensive 90-minute eval, I work to understand your concerns and goals. You will not be treated as a label or an algorithm. Together, we create a dynamic plan to help you feel like the best you. When done with care, treatment can help you feel less down, tired or worried and feel more motivated, focused, and well without changing who you are or sedating or numbing you.
