Discovering ways to feel free of anxiety, depression, anger or hate is our business together.
No one who has summoned the courage to ask for help should have to wait months for a pharmacological consultation—only to endure an impersonal 15 minute visit and get a prescription that may not even be your best option. Together we will find the best possible treatment plan, tailored to your needs.

Whether you want to gain a deeper understanding of your thoughts, emotions and behaviors, learn new coping strategies, calm anxiety, feel more confident or cultivate healthier relationships, therapy can help jumpstart that journey.
Therapy remains the cornerstone of treatment in my Practice. However, if indicated, I may recommend the careful addition of a medication to ongoing therapy. If a medication is considered after a thoughtful examination of its risks/benefits, only the lowest dose needed to achieve emotional and physical wellness will be utilized.

You struggle in social settings with worry that you are talking too much or lose track of what someone is talking with you about when in conversation.
Clients come to me looking for a provider who will listen to their concerns and understands that a lack of diagnosis as a child does not necessarily mean that an adult does not have ADHD. Adult ADHDers often have an extraordinary ability to mask symptoms in professional or social lives but struggle deeply in their personal lives.

Challenges like distractibility and overwhelm often mask undiagnosed ADHD, contributing to anxiety or depression.
Great to meet you! Let’s make this easier. You’re looking for some help, clicking on people who look like they have kind faces (thanks!) and they seem pretty similar. Everyone is Harvard trained (me too!), listens empathetically and likes long walks on the beach. How do you pick? What really matters here is your relationship with your psychiatrist. Working with me is going to feel different. Patients who like me prefer directness and an informal, relaxed style (can you tell?). I'm solutions oriented, practical and my work is fully tailored to you.

If you have been suffering with anxiety or depression, unable to get a restful nights sleep, or just feel like you are not reaching your full potential, contact me.
Ideally my patient is as invested in their care as I am. They could have a variety of diagnoses but the thing they have in common is they are willing to give the process time, are open to new ideas, and know there is no magic pill to fix all their problems. My patients want to get to the best version of themselves and are willing to try therapy as well as medications to help them reach that goal. My patient wants an empathetic, listening provider who can guide their care based on the evidence, but tailored to their individual needs.

Listening and guiding, I focus on your concerns and, rather than broad concepts, I encourage you to detail your diagnosis, such as anxiety or depression, to optimally tailor treatment with medication, therapy, and tools.
With more than two decades of experience in healthcare, I've observed that mental health services often do not receive the attention they deserve. Transitioning from family medicine to mental health care has underscored the critical demand for these services among my patients and the limited availability in mental health care open to them. My objective is to ensure that individuals in need receive the support they're entitled to. Through various talk therapies and, when necessary, medication management, I aim to assist you in finding your ideal balance for a successful, fulfilling, and healthy life.

Anxiety Psychiatrists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
