By way of education, he is a medical graduate of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lausanne, Switzerland, and trained in Psychiatry and Internal Medicine at the USC School of Medicine (1975-80) and in Geriatrics at the UCLA School of Medicine (1980-82) where he remained as Professor (1982-2017) and Professor Emeritus (2017 to present).
