Based on the National Alliance for Mental Health, 1 in 5 adults struggle with a mental illness. It would be reasonable to hypothesize that in rural areas, specifically those in southern West Virginia, the actual numbers might be higher due to limited resources and access to care. My ultimate goal is to serve the underserved in rural areas to help these individuals live a happier and more meaningful life. Growing up in the surrounding area, I have a deep understanding of the challenges the people in my community face.
