She went on to receive her medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine. She completed her adult psychiatry residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital and her child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at New York Presbyterian Hospital. She is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry & Neurology in adult psychiatry and child and adolescent psychiatry.
