I have been in practice over 30 years and have treated a wide range of life problems for individuals and couples. I believe that patterns are developed while growing up in our families of origin that no longer work or produce symptoms. I focus on understanding those attachment patterns historically and in the present in order to reflect and change them. I tend to be very empathic and interactive in this exploration with a focus on symptom reduction and change.
I am an EMDRIA certified consultant in EMDR. Other trainings: mindfulness meditation, compassion cultivation, internal family systems and somatic experiencing. These modalities help people to regulate around feeling states that overwhelm their nervous system so a wider range of feelings can be experienced without flooding or shutting down.
I have a background in psychoanalysis and family systems theory (with 2 Masters degrees in psychiatric nursing and 6 post-masters training certificates). As a psychiatric nurse practitioner I have a medical foundation which is helpful in understanding behavioral troubles. I have published papers on addiction, trauma, and psychoanalytic treatments.
