Over the past 18 years of practice, the most rewarding part of my career has been seeing patients achieve their occupational, personal and spiritual goals through the management of their psychiatric symptoms. I work with patients to create an individualized treatment plan that addresses the symptoms that are causing difficulty in their lives.
As a nurse practitioner I prescribe medications when they are indicated. I also emphasize the importance of behaviors that can improve mental health symptoms including healthy eating, exercise and stress management. I offer 30 minute visits to allow extra time for education and the discussion of treatment options.
In order to effectively treat psychiatric symptoms, I believe both physical and mental health issues need to be addressed; therefore I emphasize the importance of collaboration with primary care providers, therapists and other specialists to treat patients from a holistic approach.
