Hi, I am Kathy, a psychiatric/mental health board-certified nurse practitioner, who prescribes psychiatric medication for children and teens. I love working with these ages, 6 yo to 17 yo., in the telepsychiatry setting. As a parent are you concerned about your child's mental health and future well-being? In today's world, our children and teens are facing many issues: gun violence, suicide, social media pressures, self-harm, substance abuse, sexual assault, isolation, gender dysphoria/pressures, and peer pressure to name the biggies. You, as a parent, know how difficult it is out there for your child/teen.
I would like to be part of your team and lend my expertise. You are the expert on your child, I am not. I am the psychiatric/mental health expert and will help in that way. This is how we can work together as a team. Do you need someone to listen to you and your child, hear what you are saying, then help you identify if medication is the best choice?
I can also offer therapy during sessions as part of treatment. The number 1 comment I consistently hear in session is, "You are the first provider to listen to us." I can get children who do not want to speak to talk to me. Adolescents who self-harm find other self-soothing methods to distract themselves to feel better.
