Welcome to Rula. My name is Karron Cohoon. I am a dual-certified nurse practitioner specializing in mental health and primary care. My practice approach is whole-body health, a holistic approach to health that considers the physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual factors that contribute to a person's well-being. It's based on the idea that these aspects of health are interconnected and that taking care of them can lead to a more harmonious state of well-being. I have a passion for helping those struggling with both a substance uses disorder and a mental health disorder.
When working with clients I use a humanistic approach, developing goals of care that are rooted in the individual’s strengths, understanding their human potential for goodness, and a focus on the positive. I believe knowledge is power so I try and create a learning environment that allows the client to learn about the disorder as well as treatment options.
First, what matters most to the client? Second, how will the treatment options impact the patient (desired effects of the treatment, side effects, cost-effectiveness)? Third, is the treatment option sustainable? I want the patient to feel heard and understood and know there is hope.
