In my work as a mental health professional, the ideal client is someone who is willing to actively engage in the therapeutic process, motivated to make positive changes, and open to exploring their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. They should be committed to self-improvement and eager to work collaboratively with their provider to address their issues.
The issues that many clients may be facing vary widely but could include anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship problems, self-esteem issues, or other mental health concerns. They may also be experiencing stress, grief, or life transitions that are impacting their lives.
My approach to mental health is conservative. At your first appointment, we will discuss your symptoms, background, family history, as well as your personal physical health and mental health history. Based on this information, I will formulate a diagnosis and treatment plan. I do not always turn to medications right away.
One effective way I build empathy with potential clients is to listen actively to their concerns and needs, taking the time to truly understand their perspective and show genuine interest in what they have to say. By listening attentively, I will gain valuable insights into their challenges and aspirations, which will enable us to create a plan together.
