Born and raised here in St. George, being a psychiatrist never crossed my radar until my first rotation in medical school. I enjoyed the interpersonal relationships that develop with patients compared to all other physician specialties and the gratification that comes with being able to play a small part in helping someone overcome mental illness and feel better about themselves. I then decided to become a psychiatrist and completed a 4 year psychiatry residency in Pennsylvania.
I learned throughout my time in psychiatry residency that mental health/mood disorders are often influenced by substance use. I therefore chose to extend my training an additional year to complete an Addiction Psychiatry fellowship in Ohio and am the only addiction physician specialist in Southern Utah.
Treating patients in the mental health field can be difficult at times, but also very uplifting when you can help someone feel stable again. Whether you’re suffering from a mood disorder, addiction, or both, we can figure out an individualized treatment plan together that works best for you.
