I think psychiatry works best when your doctor is genuinely curious about you (not just your symptoms). What makes you tick, what you're carrying, and why things feel harder than they should. That kind of understanding takes time. Most of the mental health system isn't built for it. My practice is. I'm a Harvard-trained psychiatrist who does both medication management and in-depth psychotherapy, so I can offer both in one relationship. That means deep, ongoing work alongside medication management (when and if it makes sense). No rushing. No checklists. I also offer limited coaching and concierge services.
My style is warm but direct — I'm not the psychiatrist who sits silently with arms crossed, waiting for you to fill the space. I pay close attention to what you need. Some sessions that means pushing for insight. Others it means slowing down and giving you room. I adapt because cookie-cutter treatment doesn't work and you deserve better than that.
I'm an Asian American psychiatrist (but see patients of all backgrounds). I founded The Jeong Center around a Korean concept — jeong — that describes the bond that forms when two people share time and presence. That's how I think about the treatment relationship.
