I can help you thrive in your personal and professional life and overcome difficulties with anxiety, panic attacks, depression, trauma, career and relationship issues. I am a board certified, compassionate psychiatrist in private practice for 40 years and a former faculty member at SUNY Medical College. I’ve found, and research confirms, that treatment is more effective when psychotherapy is added even when medication is needed. My psychotherapy is informed by advances in neuroscience. Most sessions include both psychotherapy and evaluation of your medication. If you have insurance, I’ll help you with information for your claim.
I have found that many patients have had terrible experiences in both childhood and adult life, which changes what they believe (“I'm dying." or "Two bad things follow every good thing”), and how they act ("I won't try it"). I offer naturalistic healing, such as mindfulness and conscious breathing for calming the nervous system as well as medication.
I believe everyone can be helped and healed by modern scientific approaches using psychotherapy and medication, empathic understanding of challenges and ways of building resilience, as well as traditional healing methods.
